How to Generate a QR Code Using PDFSnap
1
Open the QR Code Generator
Visit pdfsnap.github.io and scroll to the "QR Code Generator" tool. It's available in the Utilities section alongside other free tools.
2
Select QR Code Type
Choose what your QR code will contain: URL, text, email, phone, WiFi credentials, vCard, or location. Each type has a tailored input form.
3
Enter Your Content
Type or paste your URL, contact details, or message. The QR code preview updates in real time as you type.
4
Customise (Optional)
Change the foreground colour (the dark squares) and background colour to match your brand. You can also adjust the size and error correction level.
5
Download as PNG or SVG
Click "Download PNG" for digital use, or "Download SVG" for printing at any size. Both are free with no watermark.
✅ Always Test Before Printing
After downloading your QR code, scan it with your phone camera before putting it on business cards, flyers, or menus. A mis-typed URL or wrong WiFi password in a printed QR code is expensive to fix.
Design Tips for Highly Scannable QR Codes
Maintain High Contrast
Dark pattern on a light background always scans best. Pure black on white is the gold standard. Avoid low-contrast combinations like dark grey on dark blue — most cameras will struggle. If using brand colours, keep the foreground dark and background light.
Keep a Quiet Zone (White Border)
QR codes require a blank border of at least 4 modules (the small squares) around all sides — called the "quiet zone." PDFSnap includes this automatically, but if you crop the QR code image, make sure you don't trim the border.
Use High Error Correction for Logo-Embedded QRs
If you're placing a logo in the centre of your QR code, set error correction to Level H (30%). This allows up to 30% of the QR code to be obscured by a logo while still scanning correctly. At Level L, even small logo overlays break scanning.
Minimum Print Size is 2cm × 2cm
QR codes printed smaller than 2cm × 2cm are difficult for older phone cameras to scan. For business cards, 3cm × 3cm is the comfortable minimum. For outdoor signage, use at least 10cm × 10cm.
Best Uses for QR Codes in 2026
- Business cards: Link to your LinkedIn profile, portfolio, or booking page — far more useful than just listing your email.
- Restaurant menus: Update your menu without reprinting — change prices or items at any time since the QR just links to a web page.
- Event check-in: Each attendee gets a unique QR code ticket that can be scanned at the door.
- Product packaging: Link to product manuals, warranty registration, or instructional videos.
- WiFi sharing: Put a QR code in your Airbnb, office, or home — guests scan to connect without asking for the password.
- Payment collection: Small businesses use QR codes linked to UPI, PayPal, or Stripe for cashless payments at physical locations.
- Social media: Add a QR code to your email signature or printed materials to link directly to your Instagram or YouTube channel.
Frequently Asked Questions
❓ Are QR codes generated with PDFSnap free forever?
Yes. PDFSnap's QR code generator is completely free — no subscription, no expiry date, no tracking. The QR code is generated entirely in your browser using JavaScript. We do not store your data or the QR codes you create.
❓ Do QR codes expire?
Static QR codes (which PDFSnap generates) never expire. They encode your data directly, so they work forever as long as the destination URL or content is still valid. If you change your website URL, you'll need to generate a new QR code — the old one will still point to the original address.
❓ Can I track how many times my QR code is scanned?
Static QR codes cannot be tracked. For tracking scan counts, you need a "dynamic" QR code service — these route through the provider's server to count scans before redirecting. Free dynamic QR services exist (like QR Code Generator and Bitly) if analytics matter to you.
❓ What size should I download my QR code at?
For digital use, download at 500×500px minimum. For print, download the SVG format so it scales to any size without pixelation. If you must use PNG for print, download at 2000×2000px or larger.
❓ Can I add a logo to the centre of my QR code?
Yes — download your QR code as SVG or high-res PNG, then use a design tool like Canva or Figma to overlay your logo. Use the "H" (High) error correction level when generating the QR to ensure it still scans with a logo covering the centre.
